The Mangum Track Club Prediction Run/Walk and Picnic

May 8, 2010
Changes have been made to the event plans.  Make sure and read through again.  For those
who want more miles, let's meet at the Community One Bank at 6:30 a.m. for a 10.4 miler.  I'll have
the turns marked for those not familiar with "the loop" and drop out water at two places.  Then do
the prediction run and you'll have a 14 mile morning.

If you plan to come to the prediction run and/or picnic please let me know by email (preferred),
phone or US mail.  I need an approximate count of those attending for planning.

This event is being held as a benefit for the Ellerbe Rescue Squad and to give us all a chance to
hang out and catch up on what's happening with our friends and club members.  The Ellerbe
Rescue Squad has been a part of all the Ellerbe Springs Marathons and has been on standby for all
the Boogies.  The Mangum Track Club has gotten so large that none of us know everyone.  The run
and picnic is open to MTC members, their friends, and anyone else wanting to come.  The Ellerbe
Rescue Squad will have members present to open up their building for us and the bay will be open
for our picnicking and socializing.  The cost is a $10 per person donation to the rescue squad.
Those under 18, anyone out of work and without an income, or anyone else who would like to come
and not pay can still come.  Bring your $10 in cash or by check made out to the "Ellerbe Rescue
Squad" to the event.  There will be a place to put it.

Community One Bank has given us permission to use their parking lot.  Parking is also available
around town in various places all within walking distance of the Ellerbe Rescue Squad building.  I
have no designated parking area.  Do not use the parking space of the open businesses or park in
spots that may be a problem.  Do not park on the car wash lot across street from the rescue squad.
I will have no parking attendants, so you are on your own.

When you arrive, check in at event headquarters.  Give your predicted finishing time to the finish
line judges, pick up your number and pin it on the front where it is easily visible.  There will be 2
events, one of 4 miles and another of 2 miles.  They will be wheel measured.  Both courses will
leave from the front of the rescue squad building, take a right at the end of the first block and turn
left onto Page St.  Participants will proceed out Page St. to the designated turn-around.  The 2 mile
will be 1mile out and back. The 4 mile will be 2 miles out and back. The courses are paved streets
and rural roads with no traffic control.  Participants will carry no watches or timing devices.
Winners will be those whose finish time is closest to their predicted time.

Both events will begin together at 9:30 a.m.  Awards will be given out at in the picnic area as soon
as all results are final.  All awards are recycled from previous events.  There may be Ellerbe Springs
pottery, Boogie awards, or others that have accumulated in my attic including a few cheap trophies
that I accumulated.  They will be properly labeled for the Prediction Run either with a new tag or
maybe masking tape.  I have not determined all award categories.  I will do that after I get an idea of
how many are coming.

The Ellerbe Rescue Squad will move their vehicles out of the building and have the bay set up with
tables and chairs.  Water, tea and cups will be provided.  You should either bring your own picnic
from home or purchase something to eat and bring it along.  This is not a potluck.  You will be
eating your own picnic.  The picnic should be a good time to talk and catch up with everyone.  Too
often we finish a race tired and do not hang around to visit.
